Job Description
The Vice President of Flight Operations reports to the Chief Executive Officer and has an oversight of a number of teams under the Flight Operations umbrella. The VP of Flight Operations is responsible for ensuring that all CONUS and OCONUS UAS Ground, Maintenance, and Flight operations are accomplished in accordance with regulatory and contractual performance requirements and successfully meet customer mission objectives. This position is responsible for managing all Fleet and Crew assets associated with Deployed, Internal, and Training Operations for both Defense and Commercial customers. The successful candidate will be capable of achieving smooth flow of operations in a dynamic, time-critical environment where successful mission performance and customer satisfaction is paramount.
Primary Responsibilities:
Direct, manage and oversee all Insitu UAS flight and ground operations functions to ensure customer satisfaction and contractual performance requirements are met.
Provide an effective support leadership interface with the Program Managers and other program and shared resources and personnel to achieve program objectives.
Drive development, maintenance, and implementation of internal/external procedures for all UAS operations. This will include an Insitu Flight Operations Manual (FOM) that governs all UAS operations and associated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specific to each Insitu UAS aircraft type and/or customer type. The VP will be responsible for ensuring flight, ground, and maintenance procedures are closely aligned with FAA/ICAO models to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and profitability as well as other requirements levied by the global defense customers. A successful VP will oversee the development of procedures that will simplify UAS operations to make them safer, more reliable, and more profitable.
Oversee the team responsible for managing all Insitu flight, ground, and crew assets used to support both deployed and internal site requirements. Ensure that all flight, ground, and crew resources are mission ready to meet program requirements associated with deployed and international site operations as well as Insitu training. A successful VP will develop new policies and procedures to maximize utilization of Insitu aircraft, spares, ground equipment, and crew between multiple stakeholders to improve flight safety, reliability, and profitability.
Ensure that deployed site leads are empowered and accountable for running their sites in accordance with Insitu procedures and program manager objectives with an end-goal of increasing safety, customer satisfaction, reliability, and profitability for each Insitu supported site.
Maximize asset utilization for purposes of flight testing, post production, and Insitu demos while safeguarding access to airspace utilized for Insitu UAS operations. Additionally, the VP will ensure Flight Operations has strong ties with Insitu Engineering and Insitu Production to ensure that Flight Test and Post-Production operations result in the company meeting its first-time quality objectives.
Ensure all training standards, curriculum, and training programs are being developed in accordance with program, customer, and engineering requirements as well as Insitu procedures. A successful VP will ensure that all pilot, operator, and maintainer training results in safer, more reliable, and more profitable flight operations.
Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of aviation safety programs the purpose of which is the preservation of human, material, and financial resources while maintaining maximum operational effectiveness. A successful VP will ensure that flight safety data improves not only Insitu Flight Operations safety, reliability, and profitability, but is also tie to Engineering for design evolution. Develop strong, effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors and the customers alike.
Identify and analyze operational issues to determine if they can be successfully managed through routine inter-department channels, require lateral coordination or need elevation to Executive levels. Support FRACAS process to systematically improve our systems and field operations.
Establish, manage, refine and continually revise process controls/metrics to include: schedule, performance, mission objectives and risk management.
Ensure personnel meet all deployment requirements
Prepare and deliver operational presentations to company and customer personnel.
Be able to work in a complex environment with high-stake consequences with every decision.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Minimum of 15 years relevant aviation operations and logistics support experience with record of success in leadership positions.
Prior multiyear Flight Operations leadership in either U.S. Military, NATOPS, or under 14 CFR Part 121 or Part 135.
Meets minimum FAA ATP requirements.
Significant experience with the procurement, maintenance, scheduling and support of both operational personnel and flight assets.
Proven leadership skills, training/team development expertise at progressing levels.
Standardization and evaluation experience or equivalent with knowledge and understanding of crew-member evaluations, field operating inspections, and compliance assessments.
Experience leading large groups of personnel with complex operational objectives.
Understanding of the Quality Management System ? AS9100 a plus.
In depth knowledge of flight safety operations and flight safety management programs including range safety and ideally laser safety.
Significant Profit & Loss understanding and experience.
Desired:
An ideal candidate would have both military and commercial flight and management experience.
Flight Operations background in both manned and unmanned aviation.
Experience working with State Department, diplomatic personnel, or foreign officials in support of forward deployed operations.
Experience working with Department of Defense and/or local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Experience working with Government Flight Representative, Quality Assurance, and Contract execution.
In-depth understanding of employment of small, tactical UAS highly desired.
Prior responsibilities for ensuring personnel qualifications and currencies are maintained.
Education:
Bachelor's degree required ? preferably in a business management or aerospace management field of study.
Master's degree highly desired ? preferably MBA, aerospace management, leadership or Public/Business Administration.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
